Franklin Omnium: Blogs, Lies and Race Reports

The sleepy little town of Franklin, VA woke up this weekend to the exciting sights and sounds of high-speed, low-drag stage racing action. Racers from all over the Mid-Atlantic region came together for the omnium, which featured a “not as flat as you thought” time trial, a “more technical than you thought” criterium, and a “hotter than you imagined” road race. Here are the lies some folks are telling about the event…

  • For the crew at U-neal Designs Cycling, the weekend started off with some furious attacks but ended a little more on the “crashy” side than they would have liked. Still, they seem to be smiling (to mask their frustration).
  • Pete Rides Bikes and when he does a road race, he rides bikes to the limit. Down in Franklin, he used the road race just to see how deep into the pain cave he could actually get and he got pretty far down there.
  • The ladies of Tradewinds Racing had a small but effective crew at this race. They seem to have done it all: got in the breaks, split the primes, saved a puppy, and tested out the promoter’s hammock. Weekend well spent.
  • Okay, she didn’t race but ChopStitch saw us race and got inspired to do more riding! I’ve checked out her blog and she’s a very unique lady with an amazing story. Special Half-Wheel Request — I want every reader to drop this nice lady a line today (comment on her blog!) just to keep her motivated. Just say “keep riding, Ms. ChopStitch! If the only good thing that comes out of that race weekend is getting more folks on their bikes, that’s a weekend well spent!”

So who’s got more lies to tell? If you know of one, send it to me here. I’ll believe it for you. And, seriously, tell Ms. ChopStitch how important a bike is to you; we’ve got a fan in the making out there.
